Day 1 SJP to Refuge Orrison

I started my walk on August 9. I will be hiking through the Pyrenees and will be spending the night there. I found these 2 pilgrim bags hanging on a door as I was about to start the journey of my life.

Buen Camino!

Getting to the starting line

I have finally arrived at the Bilbao bus terminal. This is the first time I actually got a break since my flight from NYC. Nothing is more comforting than munching on a bag of Cheetos futebolas. Why have these not made the US market yet?

I took a bus to the charming city of San Sebastian. No pintxos bar hopping or dining at a 3 Michelin star restaurant this time around. Just a quick stop over to catch a bus to Biarritz, France.

The Basque country is so beautiful. A picture from the French side.

The first order of business in Biarritz was to buy some goodies from Paries. The chocolates from this shop is amazing.

I walked around town reminiscing the first time I visited the surfing capital of France. I am glad to be back even for a short while.

I took a shared car service from Biarritz to my starting point at St. Jean Pied de Port.

After 3 months of planning, I start the journey of a lifetime. The Camino starts the minute you step out of your door.
